Approaching Stall or Stall Recovery

All recoveries from approach to stall should be done as if an actual stall has occurred.

Immediately do the following at the first indication of stall (buffet or stick shaker):

 

Note: Do not use flight director commands during the recovery.

Note: If autopilot response is not acceptable, it should be disengaged.

Note: If autothrottle response is not acceptable, it should be disconnected.

 

 

Initiate the recovery:

  1. smothly nose down elevator to reduce the AoA until buffet or stick shaker stops
  2. Wings level if needed
  3. Advance thrust levers as needed
  4. Retract the speedbrakes
  5. Do not change gear or flap configuration, 

except: During liftoff, if flaps are up, call for flaps 1

 

Complete the recovery:

  • Check airspeed and adjust thrust as needed
  • Establish pitch attitude
  • Return to desired flight path
  • Re-engage the autopilot and autothrottle, if desired

 

PM: Monitor, Verify actions, call out deviation, call out trend toward terrain contact

GPWS Warning

Activation of..."PULL UP"or other unaxectable flight toward terrain

 

  1. Disengage autopilot + autothrottle(s)
  2. Aggressively apply maximum* thrust
  3. Wings level, pitch  20°
  4. Retract speedbrakes
  5. If terrain remains a threat, continue rotation up to the pitch limit indicator or stick shaker or initial buffet
  6. Assure maximum thrust
  7. Verify all required actions have been completed and call out any omissions
  8. Do not change gear or flap configuration until terrain separation is assured
  9. Monitor radio altimeter for sustained or increasing terrain separation
  10. When clear of the terrain, slowly decrease pitch attitude and accelerate

 

PM: 

  • Assure maximum thrust
  • Verify all required actions have been completed  
  • call out any omissions
  • Monitor vertical speed and altitude (radio altitude for terrain clearance and barometric altitude for a minimum safe altitude)
  • Call out any trend toward terrain contact

GPWS Caution

e.g.: Dont sink

Correct the flight path or the airplane configuration.

 

Daylight VMC app may be cont.

 

 

Note: If a terrain caution occurs when flying under daylight VMC, and positive visual verification is made that no obstacle or terrain hazard exists, the alert may be regarded as cautionary and the approach may be continued

RUNWAY AWARENESS AND ADVISORY SYSTEM (RAAS)

Accomplish the following if a RAAS voice annunciation or alert differs from the flight crew’s expectation:

 

Verify position. Contact ATC for assistance, if needed.

Windshear Caution

For predictive windshear caution alert: (“MONITOR RADAR DISPLAY” aural)

 

Maneuver as required to avoid the windshear

Prior to V1, reject takeoff

AUTOMATIC FLIGHT

  1. Push either TO/GA switch
  2. Verify TO/GA mode annunciation
  3. Verify GA* thrust
  4. Retract speedbrakes
  5. Monitor system performance
  6. Do not change gear or flap configuration until windshear is no longer a factor
  7. Monitor vertical speed and altitude
  8. Do not attempt to regain lost airspeed until windshear is no longer a factor

  • Verify GA thrust
  • Verify all required actions have been completed and call out any omissions
