What are the minimum altitudes for VFR / JET aircraft?

6'000 ft/AGL -> formal aerobatics (except within TSA)

1'000 ft/AGL -> flight over congested areas, towns or settlements, conventional NVFR enroute

300 ft/AGL -> special tactical missions, fly-pasts

100 ft/AGL -> air display, crossing of mountain crests

What are the minimum altitudes for VFR / multi engine PROP aircraft?

1'000 ft/AGL -> flight over congested areas, towns or settlements, conventional NVFR enroute

500 ft/AGL -> flight over non-congested areas, crossing of mountain crests

What are the minimum altitudes for VFR / single engine PROP aircraft?

2'000 ft/AGL -> formal aerboatics (except within TSA)

1'000 ft/AGL -> flight over congested areas, towns or settlements, conventional NVFR enroute

300 ft/AGL -> flight over non-congested areas

100 ft/AGL -> crossing of mountain crests, air display

What are the minimum altitudes for VFR / HELI aircraft?

1'000 ft/AGL -> flight over congested areas, town or settlements

300 ft/AGL -> flight over non-congested areas

150 ft/AGL -> low altitude tactical flight

100 ft/AGL -> crossing of mountain crests

NIL -> air display, adverse weather flights

Explain the general altimeter setting for military aircraft.

VFR within TMAs, CTRs and TSAs -> QNH

VFR outside MIL TMAs, CTRs -> in altitude below 3'000 ft/AGL / in FL above 3'000 ft/AGL / in FL if in TSA

IFR according to ATC instructions

What's the semicircular rule?

000-179 -> uneven + 500 ft (FL 55, 75, 95...)

180-359 -> even + 500 ft (FL 45, 65, 85...)

What's the calculation rule regarding inches and hPa?

1016 hPa = 30.0 inches

3 hPa = 0.1 inch

What's the calculation rule regarding metres and ft?

ft = (m x 10) / 3

m = (ft x 3) / 10

What's the calculation rule regarding km and NM?

km = (NM x 2) - 10%

NM = (km / 2) + 10%

What's the calculation rule regarding km/h and kts?

km/h = (kts x 2) - 10%

kts = (km/h / 2) + 10%

What's the calculation rule regarding ft/min and m/sec?

m/sec = ft/min / 200

ft/min = m/sec x 200

What are the scales of the different charts we use?

mil airspace chart -> 1:500'000

airspace chart ICAO -> 1:500'000

MACRAS (Sperr- und Gefahrenzonenkarte) -> 1:300'000

What's the definition of a formation?

A flight of more than one aircraft which, by prior arrangement between the pilots, operates as a single aircraft with regards to navigation and position reporting (under the command of a flight leader).

Such a formation is considered for ATC purposes as a single aircraft.

Who's responsible for the separation between aircrafts within a formation?

flight leader and pilots of other aircraft

When in RT do you NOT only talk to the flight leader?

acknowledge IFR departure clearances

radar trail formation -> each acft shall read back all altitudes and altimeter settings

What's the position of the wingman in a section?

= standard two ship formation

-> echelon right or left position

in cruise & tactical formation -> free to choose

What are the minimum distances within a formation? How are they measured?

measured between the parts of the acft structure which are closest to one another

5m between individual aircrafts of a section

100m between individual divisions

How does a break-up work? (regarding ATC and IMC)

When under ATC control, prior to any intended separation of a formation, clearance shall be obtained.

in IMC, leader will transmit at least altitude and altimeter setting, which will be acknowledged by wingman prior to braking the formation (only two-ship, except patrouille suisse)

What are the names of possible positions in a formation?

echelon right/left

line abreast

trail area

Name and describe some special formation types?

- fingertip (close formation)
- cruise
- combat spread
- box
- wall
- diamond

How are the elements named in a standard formation (VFR)  and a radar trail (IFR)?

standard -> alpha, bravo, delta...

radar trail -> leader, trailer

How does the naming of the elements work in an IFR approach of a radar trail?

If after an IFR approach a straight-in landing will be carried out, the naming remains LEADER & TRAILER

If after an IFR approach the radar trail formation will join the VFR circuit, the naming will change into ALPHA & BRAVO

What are the two different possibilities of a three ship radar trail?

"three ship radar trail - single in front"

"three ship radar trail - single behind"

What means ARG?

autorotation

-> autorotation mit leistung

What means autorotation lane?

"autorotation-übungsplatz"

What means autorotation landing?

"autorotations-landung"

What means square training?
