Didactic
An approach to literature that assumes that the writer's job is to teach a moral or intellectual lesson
Mimetic
An approach to literature that assumes that the writer's job is to reflect real life, without comment

An implied comparison of unlike things in which one things is described in terms of another
Allusion
a reference to history, mythology, or literature that brings meaning to a literary work

Directly addressing a person, animal, thing or idea that cannot speak back
