Social Psychology

A branch of psychology dedicated to the study of how people think about, influence and relate to each other.

Replication

Repeating a scientific study to check whether its results can be obtained again.

Direct/exact replication

Replication in which a study is repeated as exactly as possible.

Conceptual replication

Replication in which some change is introduced to the method of the original study.

Interaction effect

Different causes may interact with each other to produce changes in a dependent variable (e.g., contact between groups and equality of status between groups interact to predict reductions in prejudice).

Moderation

When the effect
of one variable (e.g., contact between groups) on an outcome (e.g., prejudice)
is changed by a third variable (e.g., whether groups are equal in status). Moderation is apparent when an interaction effect is observed.

Mediation

When the effect of one variable (e.g., contact between groups) on an outcome (e.g., prejudice) works through an intermediate variable (e.g., anxiety about interactions with the other group).
