Do all LVD involve guided take-offs?
No
LVD involving guided take-offs are not permitted if ...... ? (6)
- LOC out of CAT II/III tolerance
- LOC critical/sensitive area not vacated
- failure of ILS ground monitoring system
- failure of far-field monitor
- failure of LOC standby transmitter
- auxiliary power not working
What should you do afer aircraft has landed in CAT II/III to continue operations?
ask to report runway vacated (unless positively oserved on ASDE)
When shall the termination phase be initiated?
- when RVR reaches 550m or greater,
- vertical visibility and ceiling is 200ft or greater,
- condition are indicating sustained improvement
What is the minimum equipment required during CAT II operations?
1 LOC, 1 GP, 1 DME
What is the minimum equipment required during CAT III operations?
2 LOC, 2 GP, 2 DME
What is the minimum equipment required during LVD (guided take-offs only)?
2 LOC
Who has to be updated immediately about any deficiency or downgrading of operations? How should it be reported?
approach and flight crews
reported in terms of category of operations that ILS can support
What should be done with a longer downgrade?
more than 1 hour -> publish in NOTAM
Does a downgrade of operational status prohibit aircrafts to operate on higher status?
No, they can do it under their own responsibility
Any failure of secondary power supply will result in ...... ?
downgrading to CAT I ILS operations
LVD not available
For what reasons are operations during LVP downgraded?
- minimum required equipment not available
- aircraft or vehicle within any cirital area of ILS
- aircraft or vehicle within sensitive area of ILS, when arriving acft is less than 2 NM from rwy threshold
- aircraft or vehicle is within sensitive area of LOC, between position where acft will commence a LVD and LOC antenna
In what exception can an aircraft/vehicle be in the ILS sensitive area when arriving acft is closer than 2 NM?
Operations in low visibility shall not be considered downgraded if an obstructing aircraft or vehicle will vacate the sensitive area before the approaching aircraft passes a position 1 NM from touchdown.

What if an aircraft requests practice CAT II/III approach?
approve,
LVP need not be applied, departing or preceeding landing aircraft may disturb ILS signals
-> inform flight crew of this possibility: "Low Visibility Procedures not applied"
What's the definition of decision height/altitude?
Wheel height above runway elevation by which a go around must be initiated unless adequate visual reference has been established and the aircraft position and approach path have been assessed as satisfactory to continue the approach or landing.
What means LVP and which ILS categories are called such?
Low Visibility Procedures
ILS Cat II and III
What's the distance between the runway lights?
60m
What are the values of ILS CAT I?
Decision Height: 200ft (60m)
MET VIS: 800m
OR
RVR: 550m
How many rwy lights must be visible in CAT I?
10 (RVR 550m)
What are the values of ILS CAT II?
Decision Height: <200ft (60m) but not less than 100ft (30m)
RVR: <550m but not less than 350m (not less than 300m in CAT D on auto land)
What do CAT II and III approaches require for landing?
radio altimeter
How many rwy lights must be visible in CAT II?
6 (RVR at least 350 metres)
What are the values of ILS CAT III in general?
Decision Height: <100ft (30m)
OR
NO decision height (=0)
RVR: <300m
What are the values of ILS CAT III A?
Decision Height: <100ft (30m) but not less than 50ft (15m)
RVR: <300m but not less than 200m
How many rwy lights must be visible in ILS CAT III A?
4 (RVR <300 to 200 metres)
What are the values of ILS CAT III B?
Decision Height: <50ft (15m)
OR
NO decision height
RVR: <200m but not less than 50m
What's the difference of minimum in CAT III A and CAT III B?
CAT III A: Minimum to allow pilot do decide whether aircraft will land in touchdown zone
CAT III B: Minimum to allow pilot to decide whether aircraft will land in touchdown zone and ensure safety during roll-out
How many rwy lights must be visible in ILS CAT III B?
1 (<200 to 50 metres)
What are the values of ILS CAT III C?
NO decision height
NO RVR limitations
