This flashcard set covers advanced air traffic control procedures for military and civilian operations, focusing on flight management, separation rules, and emergency protocols. It delves into topics like IFR and VFR traffic handling, runway operations, and specific procedures for various aircraft types, including helicopters and fixed-wing planes. Pilots, air traffic controllers, and aviation students will benefit from this detailed collection, as it provides essential guidelines for safe and efficient airspace management.

Tiger and Hornet, only SINGLE

What can you expect if a F18 has to abort take-off?

with 100 kts or more: pilot may ask for the CFR to cool down brakes

Explain the use of short/long field cables + crash barriers.

landing for F5, F18 and PC21:
long field cable and arresting barrier -> up

take-off for F5, F18, PC21:
long field cable and arresting barrier -> up

landing with short field cable -> only possible for F18

A4 -> take-off within 3 min, pilot in acft + engines off
A5 -> take-off within 1 min, pilot in acft + engines running
A6 -> airborne

State the CIV / MIL priority regulation.

1. Scramble Order (USO) type "Active Air"
2. ARR IFR MIL
3. ARR IFR CIV
4. DEP IFR CIV with CTOT (inform ADDC about slot)
5. Scramble Order type "Exercise"
6. Scramble Order type "Daily Ops"
7. DEP IFR MIL
8. DEP IFR CIV without CTOT

What are the clearance expiry times? Definition of start and end?

airbase - airbase -> 4 min
airbase - ADDC -> 2 min

start when clearance has been issued, ends latest when airborne

How do you clear helicopters for take-off? EC / AS? When do you NOT issue take-off clearance?

Don't issue take-off clearance if
- site uncontrolled, e.g. not on manoeuvring area
- traffic conditions unknown (on manoeuvring area but not in sight)

EC: "T-346, QNH 1018, wind 090 degrees 6 knots, heliport depart at own discretion."

AS: "T-331, taxi approved, QNH 1018, report ready for departure."
AS: "T-331, wind 090 degrees 6 knots, pumaport depart at own discretion."

What has ATC to do in case of a Sierra climb?

- assign transponder code
- find out position if not clear on radar
- give traffic information as far as pracicable
- provide max level to pilot

What are the speed restrictions for MIL traffic?

at and above FL330: > M 0.95
at and above FL100 until below FL330: max. M 0.95

below FL100: M 0.9, liaison flight: M 0.7

inside CTR/TMA: max. 350 kts

State two RT examples for joining instructions.

1. Next reporting point / Kind of approach
2. Runway in use
3. Altitude instruction
4. QNH

"Report circuit positions" -> what will the pilot report?

- mid downwind
- mid baseleg
- begin final

Under what circumstances is formation landing forbidden?

- contaminated runway
- at night
- high bird activity reported
- dissimilar aircraft configurations or types
- technical and operational restrictions (SAF manual) dictate single landing
- short field arrested landing needed

How do pilots roll out after a formation landing?

they stay on each others side, until taxi speed, then both join slow lande (= oriented towards taxiways, exit, TARMAC)

How is the PC-21 traffic circuit at the different airfields?

EMM -> 1 NM longer as prop circuit, 3000 ft

PAY -> 3000 ft, prop

SIO -> 25: jet cct 5000 ft, 07: prop cct 3000 or 4000 ft

MEI -> jet circuit 4000 ft

DUB -> 3000 ft, OM C

What's the separation for landing aircraft?

1000 metres

What's the separation for landing and departing aircraft?

2000 metres

What's the separation between acft on same runway at night?

two aircraft only at the same time

Explain the simulated forced landing procedure for PC-21.

as to pass two positions:

high key = abeam threshold upwind, 3000 ft / AGL
low key = abeam threshold downwind, 2000 ft / AGL

Is landing over cable allowed?

only for F5 and F18 single landings

Explain the procedure "diversion to land" (general points/conditions, airfields, expressions of acft, procedure)

- ordered by ground control, done by airborne assets
- be able to keep visual contact, transmit either by radio or by visual signals
- escort as far as landing
- designated aerodrome needs to be suitable (LSZH, LSGG or DUB, PAY, EMM)

eyeball / safety element (shooter)

1. Guide over active runway, acft shall fly standard cct
2. Eyeball lowers gear
3. Acft lowers gear as well, stay down -> OK, up again -> not suitable to land
4. Perform full circling via UPWIND, interceptors stay in cct until acft has landed

How does a fixed-wing aircraft proceed with a COM failure for landing?

- fly upwind at 1'600 ft / AGL and request landing clearance by rocking wings

- at end of upwind, climb to cct altitude and join downwind via crosswind

- receive light signals in downwind and act accordingly (steady green = cleared to land, steady red = runway unuseable, orbit airfield at 1000 ft/AGL, flashing red = divert to alternate, will be informed)

How does a NORDO approach within formation work?

NORDO acft is wingman, formation straight-in approach, leader reports 3 greens + does go around, wingman lands

RCF in flight - procedure for fixed-wing aircraft? Radar identification procedure?

- squawk 7700
- try to re-establish radio communication and listen to emergency frequencies
- maintain VMC as long as possible (if unable to comply with radar identification procedure)

triangle right (1min, 120°) -> transmitter failure
triangle left ( 1min, 120°) -> transmitter and receiver failure

RCF in flight - procedure for helicopters?

- in VMC and ground in sight, land at next suitable landing site

- avoid any airfield traffic circuit areas or CTRs

- report problems and intentions to ATC by phone

- return acft to home base

Gear problems - procedure for helicopters?

if maintenance crew not advised, hover over maintenance area, wait for ground crew

puma aim for belly landing, better than one gear side out

When does a COMLOSS exist? What needs to be done? How does a report look like?

after 3 unsuccessful attempts to contact an acft by ATCO on assigned frequency or 121.5

inform SPVR, SPVR forwards to ADDC (CAD)

1. Callsign
2. position
3. compliance with flight plan profile
4. other relevant information, if available

What's the procedure for aircraft stated "lost" or "overdue"?

5 min -> inform supervisor (theoretically)

15 min -> try to establish radio contact (yellow)

30 min -> inform CFO/AOC (red)

What's the contingency procedure for weapon problems - noticed by pilot? maintenance? fire brigade?

pilot:
- pilot informs ATC
- ATC informs fire brigade
- ATC informs CTS
- pilot taxies to hot gun area

maintenance:
- maintenance informs pilot
- pilot informs ATC
- ATC informs fire brigade
- pilot taxies to hot gun area

fire brigade:
- fire brigade informs ATC
- ATC informs pilot
- ATC informs CTS
- pilot taxies to hot gun area

What's the standard separation rule in ATMM CH?

Separate the following acft...
- IFR and IFR in C, D, E
- IFR and VFR in C
- IFR and SVFR
- SVFR and SVFR

What's the "military" addition to the separation rules in airspace D (OAT)?

- MIL-MIL and CIV-MIL within CTR/TMA

What's the standard separation between military aircrafts?

- 1'000 ft vertical, or
