Difference between Wether & climate?

  • Wether: from day to day (quickly) changing condition of the atmosphere
  • climate: average wether over a longer period

eg: Monsoon climate : rainy period = summer

opposit = dry season

Climatic elements/factors:

  1. temperature
  2. precipitation
  3. air pressure

What affects tmeperature:

  1. altitude (Seehöhe)
  2. distance from sea (sea has balancing effect, stores heat for longer time)
  3. distance from equator

Distance from sea:

  • landmass: heats up & cools down quickliy

->  hot summers & cold winters

  • sea: heats up slowly & stores heat longer

-> cool summers & mild winters (above 0°C)

Austria: westerly wind from atlantic ocean

france -> austria -> Hungary -> Ukraine

decreasing huminity & rainfall

with increasing altitude colder (1,56°C per 100m)

Global zones

polar zone

subpolar zone (eg. north of scandinavian countries)

66° - Arctic Circle (nördl. Polarkreis)

Temperate zone

40°

subtropics

23° - Tropic of cancer

tropics

0° - equator

global zones are reflected on both tropics (tropic of cancer nördl. & tropic of capricorn südlich)

Climate & vegetation from equator to tropic of cancer (Tropics)

tropic of cancer

tropical climate w. 1 short wet season - semi desert (Halbwüste)

tropical climate w. 1 wet season - savanna (Trockensavanne)

tropical climate w. 2 wet seasons - closed savanna (Feuchtsavanne)

equator

equatorial climate - rainforest

Baumriesen

emergents

Baumdecke
