tragische Ironie
The stylistic device of tragic irony is mainly used in dramas. The story is constructed in such a way that the audience can already guess in advance that something bad will happen to a character. However, the character in question is not yet aware of this.
for example the confict beetwen curleys wife and lenni
which are symbols in the book?
candys dog: he was a strong and usefull dog, but when he gots older he became weak so he gets killed. he stand for the hard selection during the great depression
the death of the dog can also be interpreted as a forwarning of Lennies death. Both are perecived as a load by diffrent people
loneliness: the motiv of loneliness is taken up by the name of the city soledad
george describes early that the life of a worker are lonely
Dreams: the character of the books have dreams. curley wife want to be a filmstar und want to find the true love. the other workers want to get a own farm in the future.Everybody feels like they are trapped in the wrong life But the focus is on the dream of george and lenny

Striving for the American dream:
lennys and georges dream is to own a farm and a piece of land so they can work for themself, but as the story progress the dream gets further away. they get into more and more trouble and in the end they have to give up the dream
Friendship:
Lennie knows he can trust george and george will always watch out for lennie and protect him. He also did it in the last scene because he knows when the other men get lennie he will have a terrible fate. till the end george is on lenny site and after the death he gives up the drea
