WEP only authentication
on shared secret für alle
security algo RC4
unauthenticated mac header
linear crc32 as integrity check value
User authentizieren
Access Points authentifizieren
individual session keys for each user
integrity check with MAC
sequence number to avoid replay attacks
Was ist eigentlich IEEE 802.11i ?
Was verstehen Sie unter AS in der IEEE 802.11i welt ?
Authentication Server
Was verstehen Sie unter AP in der IEEE 802.11i welt ?
Access point
Was verstehen Sie unter STA in der IEEE 802.11i welt ?
Station
Was verstehen Sie unter MK in der IEEE 802.11i welt ?
Master KEY
Was verstehen Sie unter PMK in der IEEE 802.11i welt ?
Pairwise Master Key
- STA kennt SSID of Network
- STA kennt authentication and cipher suites of Network
- AP kennt die capabilities of STA
Was ist EAPOL
Extensible Authentication Protocol Over Lan
How does the process work if the dynamic WEP ist used for encryption?
As the master key is negotiated between the STA and AS. This key will be also used for the encryption between STA and AP. Normaly you will derivate a sub key. But in this case not. So the AS will force the STA to reauthenticate after a while
So master key used for traffic encryption but this will be forced to change frequently by reauthentication of the client.
How does it work if WPA is used to secure the traffic?
If WPA is used then a data enc key will be derivated from the Masterkey for each packet. There is also a WEP2 and WEP3 which are much secure.
What is a PMK and PTK. For what are they used ?
The PMK is the Pairwise Masterkey
The PTK Pairwise Transient Key
THE PMK is negotiated between STA and AS, The AS will transfer the PMK to AP
The PTK is dericated from PMK from AP and STA. This is the base key for deriving keys which can be used for authentication and data encyrption.
What kind of keys can be derived from PTK?
Key Confirmation Key (KCK) : used to bind PTK to the AP and STA used to prove possession of PMK → Authentication
Key Encryption Key (KEK) : used to distribute Group Transient Key(GTK)
Temporal Key (TEK) : used to secure data traffic
What is a PSK ?
Pre Shared Key
How is the PMK defined in WPA2-Enterprise?
Each session starts with a new PMK.
What possibilities does it have for the PMK in WPA2- Personal ?
It could be also from a PSK which is known to AP and STA in before.
What are the properties of PSK ?
No user authentication
PSK is a Authentication to a Network (STA has his own session)
motivations are
- Ad Hoc Network
- SOHO Network
Was ist SOHO Netwerk ?
Small Office, Home Office Netwerke
Where is Passwork to key Mapping? And what can you tell about it?
What is the 4 Way Handshake ?
SNonce = client Nonce
GTK = Group Temporal key
MIC = wird aus dem KCK generiert
Können Sie den 4 Way Handshake auf zeichenen?
Message 1: Authenticator -> Client
An EAPOL-Key message is sent that contains ANonce. This message is not encrypted
or integrity-verified. After this message is sent, the client has all the pieces necessary
to generate the PTK.
PTK = PRF-512(PMK, "Pairwise key expansion", Min(AP_Mac, Client_Mac) ||
Max(AP_Mac, Client_Mac) || Min(ANonce, SNonce) || Max(ANonce, SNonce))
The PTK is a keyed-HMAC function using the PMK on the two MAC addresses and the
two nonces from the first two packets of the 4-Way Handshake.
Message 2: Client -> Authenticator
An EAPOL-Key message is sent that contains SNonce. This message is not encrypted,
but contains a MIC (Message Integrity Check) encrypted using the EAPOL Integrity Key.
MIC = HMAC(KCK, 16, 802.1X Data)
A MIC value is calculated, using the KCK from the PTK and the EAPoL message.
After this message is sent, the authenticator now can also compute the PTK. It then
verifies the MIC using the newly-generated EAPOL Integrity Key (KCK).
If this step succeeds, the authenticator has verified that the client has the correct PMK
and PTK, and that there is no man-in-the-middle.
Message 3: Authenticator -> Client
This message tells the client that the AP is ready to begin encryption. The message is
not encrypted, but contains a MIC (Message Integrity Check) encrypted using the
EAPOL Integrity Key.
If this step succeeds, the client has verified that the authenticator has the correct PMK
and PTK and that there is no man-in-the-middle.
Message 4: Client -> Authenticator
Finishes the handshake. Indicates that the client is ready to begin data encryption.
Serves no useful cryptographic purpose, but is there because the 802.1X port will
change state. After this message is sent, both sides install the PTK.
Was ist der 4-way Handshake Crack ?
4-way handshake is parsed to get AP and STA addresses, AP and STA nonces, and
EAPOL payload and MIC from 4th frame;
● SOHO password is used to compute PMK;
● PTK is computed from PMK, AP and STA addresses and nonces;
● KCK from computed PTK is used to compute MIC of the EAPOL payload obtained
at step 1;
● Computed MIC is compared to the MIC obtained at step 1. If they match then
candidate password is reported as correct.
Also zwingt man einen nonce reuse.
obligatorische
-TKIP Temporal key Integrity
-CCMP CTR CBC-MAC protocol
optional
-WRAP Wireless robust Authentication Protocol
Was ist das TKIP Protocol ?
The Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) is a new protocol that will fix the known
problems with WEP. TKIP uses the same ciphering kernel as WEP (RC4) but adds a
number of additional functions.
Was ist CCMP (AES) für ein Protokoll
The CTR with CBC-MAC Protocol (CCMP) is the long term solution and is based on the
Advanced Encryption Standard(AES). AES is a block cipher that can be used in different
modes of operation. In 802.11i, Counter mode with CBC-MAC(CCM) is adopted. CCM
based on AES can provide robust encryption and message integrity. CCM uses the
Counter mode for encryption and CBC MAC for integrity.
können Sie was zum WRAP Protokoll sagen ?
The Wireless Robust Authenticated Protocol (WRAP) is optional due to intellectual
property issues and possible licensing fees. In 802.11i, two modes have been
discussed: Offset Codebook (OCB) and Countermode with CBC-MAC (CCM). CCMP was
then adopted as mandatory. These two modes use AES differently to provide
encryption and message integrity. OCB is a mode that provides both encryption and
integrity in one run.
Was ist WPS ?
(entenring a PIN, pushing buttons on both side)
What is a WLC Wireless LAN Controller?
