What is the 19th century view of the brain? 

Injury can disrupt sensation and movement and thought. Brain communicates with body via nerves. Has different parts with different functions. Operates like machine and follow law of nature.

What did Galvani and Bois-Reymond discover about nerves?

Muscles cam be caused to twich when nerves are stimulated electrically and the brain itself can generate electricity. --> Nerves are wires that conduct electrical signals to and from the brain.

What did Bell and Magenkrebs discover?

Just before nerves attach to spinal cord the fibers devide into 2 branches. Dorsal root: enters toward back of the spinal cord. Ventral root enters toward the front. Cutting ventral roots causes muscle paralysis.

What is the function of Dorsal roots? 

They carry sensory information into the spinal cord.
