Flight controls: Trim system small aircraft
reduces the pilots workload => normally all three axis => each trim system is equipped with a simple indicator
Flight controls: Flap System on small aircrafts; three systems
provide reduced T/O and landing speeds
1. manually => the respective handle in the cockpit
2. electrically => switcheds stop the flap motor autmatically => locking a device is not necessary because the screwed spindle is self-locking
3. hydraulically
Flight controls: VFO
max . speed for max. flap operating speed => for flap operation = flaps herein- oder ausfahren
Flight controls: Auto Slat system small airplanes
some small airplanes => slats travel in and out on the dynamic pressure => at low speed (low dynamic pressure) a spring based system moves the slat out
Flight controls: Trailing Edge Flaüs (large airplanes)
a hydraulic motor drives the flaps via s span-wise torque-shaft and screwed spindles = > Flap tracks are installed under the wind and these support the flap carriages
Flight controls: TE flaps large aircraft => are they self locking?
Trailing edge flaps are now self locking => a locking device is often used to prevent an unintentional movement
Flight controls: Alternate Flaps Systems on large transport Aeroplane
in the event of a failure of the driving system, usually an alternate system probed to drive the driving nit => By some aircraft's that an electro motor or standby hydraulic system => Airbus: two independent hydraulic motors
Flight controls: Auto retraction System flaps?
which protects the flaps from excessive air loads => controls the retraction and automatic re-extend of the flaps => A gewisser Speed automatisch retract or re-extend
Flight controls: Flaps Asymmetry warning
when flaps asymmetry develops, a comparator system stops the flaps power drive system and a warning will be displayed
Flight controls: Auto Slat system Big airplanes ?
Auto-slat system fully extends the slats whenever the flaps are extended
Flight controls: Trim system on big airplanes
a stabilizer or pitch trim system => stabilizer trim
Flight controls: There are two additional trim switches for the stabilizer on big airplanes ?
1. the trim wheel: turns a cable drum
2. trim switches: the stabilizer is moved by a hydraulic or elecric motor
==> When operating with the trim switches => the cable system leads to a trim wheel movement in the cockpit accordingly
Flight controls: disadvantage of the horizonal stabilizer
the trim runaway is more of a problem than with a trim tab => should the train runaway occur, switch off the autopilot and hold the trim wheel
Flight controls: Where are the trim tab installed ?
not used on large aeroplanes
Flight controls: When comes the ground spoilers out?
ground contact is sensed by either air-ground sensors at a) the shock strut or b) wheel spin up
Flight controls: T/O warning system ?
it warns the crew, if the thrust levers are in T/O range and
a) Flaps are not in T/O position
b) Parking break is set
c) brake lever is not down
d) trim is not in the green band
Flight controls: Most large convetional aeroplanes are not provided with aileron and rudder trim tabs. Is it still possible to trim these control surfaces ?
Yes, trimming is possible by adjusting the neutral point of the artificial feel mechanism by means of a trim switch
Flight controls: Rudder trim ajustment in an aeroplane with irreversible flight controls is:
an adjustment of the zero force rudder position
Flight controls: Trimming of aileron and rudder in an irreversible flight control system: is achieved by adjusting the ............ point of the feel system trols:
Trimming of aileron and rudder in an irreversible flight control system: is achieved by adjusting the zero force point of the feel system
Flight controls: The zero force position of the control column does not change when using the elevator trim
Flight controls: The zero force force position of the control wheel changes wgen using teh aileron trim.
Flight controls: two diffrent spoilers
1. Inbound 2. outbound spoilers
Flight controls: Inbound spoilers für was?
ground spoilers
Flight controls: Outbound spoilers für was?
1. Speed brake 2. Roll spoilers 3. Ground spoilers
Which of the following statements are correct when comparing a "Fly by wire" system to a conventional system:
1) Improved handeling
2) Fuel saving
3) Light weight
4) Reduced maintenance time
All
Why are there two trim switches on the control column?
both switches must be made for the trim to operate, this reduces the likelihood of trim runaway
A "Q" Feel or artificial feel unit system...
must be mounted in parallel with an irreversible servo control unit
Why is artificial feel (Q feel) required and how is the degree of feel set?
Fitted to prevent overstressing of the aircraft and gives decreased assistance as the speed increases
Which protection system is actually fitted on modern jet transport aircraft?
Asymmetric flap protection.
What is the purpose of trim tabs?
to reduce stick holding forces to zero
a) Elevator trim: zero forces position of teh control column does xy change (control stick)
b) Aileron trim: zero force position xy changes
c) Rudder trim: zero force psoition xy changes
a) Elevator trim: zero forces position of teh control column does noz change (control stick)
b) Aileron trim: zero force position changes (the control wheel in teh direction of teh trim)
c) Rudder trim: zero force psoition changes (pedals move in teh direction of teh trim)
The creep may be described as the:
circumferential movement of the tire in relation to the wheel flange
Hydraulic fluid in the reservoir is slightly pressurised to:
prevent cavitation in the pump
check valve = non return valve is?
fluid will only be allowed flow in one direction => like a diode in electriconic circuits = allows the electric current to flow in one direction only => slightly pressure drop during fluid flow conditions
The anti skid system: how get teh system the information that you are skidding?
a wheel speed sensor
