What are intermediation and disintermediation and how do they affect supply chains?

Intermediation: bring supply and demand together at a central point and the goal is to make transactions between economic actors as epedient as possible to reduce transaction costs during individual phases in the supply chain. The intermediaries retrieve information for sales promotion and procurement support and buyer search and contacting for reducing information asymmetries and building confidence in the information phase.
In the agreement phase intermediaries do the negotiations for matching of demand and supply and in the settlement phase they are responsible for the physical distribution of financing, payments and assumption of risks.

In general they lead to a reduction of transaction costs , several transactions are supported.

Disintermediation.Intermediation only makes sense, if the costs of direct transaction between supplier and customer are higher than the cumultative costs of transactions between supplier and intermediary, intermediary and buyer and the trading margin of the intermediary. The risk of disintermediation is only high when the volume of goods flow and information complexity is low. When the volume of goods flow is high and information complexity is low then the risk lowers to medium wherease the danger of disintermediation is generally low when the information complexity is high. The more specialized a comany's services are in the supply chain, the lower the risk of disintermediation by an upstream or downstream business partner.

What are the differences between Goods-Dominant Logic and Service-Dominant Logic?

GDL creates goods and services vs SDL creates only a Service

GDL delivers finished products and SDL focusses on the distribution mechansism for service provision

In GDL the customers are the buyers of the goods and in SDL the customers are the co-creator of value

The source of economic growth is in GDL the ownership and the use of natural resources and in SDL it is the application of knowledge and skills

What is a service in the context of Service-Dominant Logic?

Service is in form of actions, processes and services and creating benefits . It is the application of knowlede and skills

What are resources in the context of Service-Dominant Logic?

  • Human resources (knwoledge, skills)
  • Organisational nature (controls, routines)
  • Informal in nature (knowledge about competitors or market structures)
  • Relational nature (relations between a company and ist stakeholders)

What are the ten fundamental premises on which Service-Dominant Logic is based?

  1. FP1: Serice is the fundamental basis of exchange
  2. FP2: Indirect exchange masks the fundamental basis of exchange.
  3. FP3: Goods are a distribtuion mechansim for service provision
  4. FP4: Operant resources are the fundamental source of strategic benefit.
  5. FP5: All economies are service economies.
  6. FP6: Value is cocreated by multiple actors, always including the beneficiary.
  7. FP7: Actors cannot deliver value but can participate in the creation and offering of value propositions
  8. FP8: A service-centered view is inherently custom oriented and realtional
  9. FP9 All social and economic actors are resource integrators
  10. FP10 Value is always uniquely and phenomenologically determined by the beneficiary.

What is the Service-Dominant Strategy Canvas?

The service-dominant strategy canvas is a management tool for designing strategies that follows the service dominant logic and is build of three major modules.

  1. Value-in-use
    1. Customer: who is the customer
    2. Experience: what is the experience that we want to deliver to the customer?
    3. Interactions: how do we interact with the customer?
  2. Service ecosystem
    1. Core Services: what are they?
    2. Core partners: who are they?
    3. Focal organization: what role do we want to play into the ecosystem?
    4. Enriching services: what are they?
    5. Enriching partners: who are they?
  3. Collaboration management
    1. Core relationships: how do we manage our core relationships?
    2. Enriching relationships: how do we manage our enriching relationships?

What is Everything as a Service (XaaS)?

It refers to the delivery of as a service. It includes a large number of products, tools and technologies that vedors deliver to the users as a service over a network (the internet) rather than provide locally or on-site within an enterprise.

What is ment by "adaptive supply chains"?

Adaptive supply chain focuses on the logistics of efficiently deploying resources to assemble, transport, sustain and distribute people and goods. Facilitating fulfillment of demand associated with economic commerce, national defense, disaster response, and humanitarian aid.

Event-driven

  • Control by way of demand pull
  • Supported by information technology

Company-related

  • Focus on the integration model for the design of business processes
    • Influencing factors (personnel, organization and information technology)
    • Corporate goals, strategies and guidelines
    • Company context (industry, etc.).

Self-regulating

Use of suitable information systems to continuously adapt the supply chain to actual demand

Proactively avoid supply bottlenecks and overstocking

What are the five flows of the supply chain and what do they contain?

  1. Products flow
    • Movement of goods from supplier to consumer (both internal and external) and dealing with customer needs such as input materials or consumables or services such as housekeeping. The product flow also includes returns and rejections (reverse flow).
  2. Financial flow
    • The financial and economic aspects are considered from two perspectives. Firstly from the cost and investment perspective and secondly from the cash flow perspective.
  3. Inforamtion flow
    • SCM comprises a multitude of different information: Parts lists, product data, descriptions and prices, inventories, customer and order information, etc. - and this can require a lot of communication and coordination with suppliers, transport providers, subcontractors and other parties.
  4. Value flow
    • A supply chain has a number of value-adding processes that span the entire chain to provide added value to the end consumer. In each phase there are physical processes related to production, distribution. In each phase there is a certain value added to products or services.
  5. Risk flow
    • Risks in the supply chain are due to a number of uncertain elements that are largely in demand, supply, price, lead time, etc. A supply chain risk is the potential occurrence of an event or the failure to take advantage of opportunities to supply the customer, the results of which lead to financial loss for the entire supply chain.
