democracy
government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents in a manner that affects the co-existence in the larger community (derived from the Greek words "demos" = people and "kratia" =government

a citizen's obligation to serve in the military
dictatorship
a form of government prevailing in a country where absolute power is exercised by a dictator (e.g. North Korea) or by very few persons (a political party)
optional referendum
an instrument of direct democracy in Switzerland where people vote on subjects which 50,000 eligible voters or at least 8 cantons have petitioned to vote on a federal law
refugee
