Name the 6 special channels.
- International VHF Emergency Channel / No. 140, V40, 121.5 MHz
- International UHF Emergency Channel / No. 240, U40, 243.0 MHz
- International UHF Emergency CHannel / 406.0 MHz
- Civil Channel I / 134.275 MHz, V46
- ADDC Line up for LSGS / 126.825 MHz, Z Sion
- Civil Community Frequency / No. 100 / 119.7 MHz
Where are the two international emergency channels available?
VHF (121.5) -> airprots of LSZH, LSGG and adjacent foreign airports (24/7) / ADDC during MIL operating hours / partly on NATO airbases
UHR (243.0) -> NATO airbases / french bases at least between SR and SS / ADDC during MIL operating hours / MIL towers and MIL radar stations
What are the emergency channels also used for?
interceptions (it is possible for the ADDC to transmis on this channel)
What is the UHF emergency channel 406.0 MHz?
received with the help of stallite systems (COSPAS / SARSAT), worldwide and 24/7
gives information about position, matriculation, type of a/c.....
regusters the details and sends them within minutes to the national emergency agencies (REGA)
What can the UHF emergency channel U40, 243.0 MHz also do?
receives crash beacon signal
What is the civil channel I (V46, 134.275) used for? Up to what FL is it available in the ADDC?
for guidance of civil aircraft in the training areas (e.g. test flights Pilatus)
up to FL280
What is LUCEBIT? How does it work?
COMSOFT recording system on military aerodromes
two independent recording devices run in parallel (redundancy)
What are the duties of ATC regarding LUCEBIT?
verify the status of the system:
indicator lamp showing...
green -> both recorder ok
yellow -> some disturbance of failure on at least one of the recorders; normal ATC Ops, advice technics
red -> both recorders "no go" problem, not in operations; ATC to close Ops and advise technics
What is MILAFIS? What are its purposes?
Automatic Radio Response System
to avoid a lot of published NOTAM's and to have always the actual status of the airbase or danger/restricted area available
How does MILAFIS work?
e.g. tower:
call on frequency will be answered by the tape of the MILAFIS (if TWR not available)
pilots have to call every time when a crossing is requested (24/7) and the pilot has to remain on the frequency in case the airfield is getting active
Where is MILAFIS available?
DUB, MEI, PAY (consider as to be active 24/7)
LS-R6 (Axalp)
LS-D7 (Grandvillard)
LS-R8 / 8A (Dammastock)
LS-R9 (Gluringen)
LS-D10 (Brigels)
LS-R11 / 11A (S-chanf)
What is VOBIS? Where is it available?
Automatic Information Service
EMM, BUO, ALP
How does VOBIS work?
Due to close proximity of the 3 airports (EMM, BUO, ALP), the actual status of CTR Alpnach, Buochs and CTR/TMA Emmen is transmitted continuously on the INFO frequency (134,125 MHz). After listening to the informaiton frequency and if aispace is not active, the pilot has to do blind calls on the specific tower frequency.
What's the difference between MILAFIS and VOBIS?
MILAFIS -> "radio response", call will be answered by a tape
VOBIS -> "information", tape continuously transmitting on info frequency
What system (MILAFIS, VOBIS) does Sion have?
MILAFIS suspended, due to operation of ATIS in Sion (status of CTR is broadcasted via this service now)
