Flashcards

Body temperature during sleeping?

Night => around 2300 => low => Long sleep/ deep sleep around 5:00 REM => high around 12:00

2 functions of sleep

1. Slow waves sleep or deep sleep: Physical recovery from fatigue

2. Paradoxical sleep (REM: Rapid Eye Movement): Memorisation, Learning, Dreams

Ist schlafzeit aufholbar?

ja => Aber nur deep sleep debt is cumulative ==> BEST 16 Wach, 8h schlafen

The physiological effect of fatigue

a) Decrease body temperature

b) Bad coordination

c) Increase of the heart frequency

d) feeling of sleepines

e) decreasing of the muscular strength

==> Gähnen

The psychological effect of fatigue: Decrease/Increae

Decrease: Memory performance, error detection, Communication capacities, Vigilance (Aktiveriung des zentralen Nervensystems), cooperation

INcreae: Time reaction, erros aggressiveness, stress

Fatigue and Risk?

Fatigue Management

1. Napping (20 min -2 h) 2. keeping a healthy life style:avoid rich fat meals, physical activity, manage your sleep needs

Westwards flights

Besser => more REM slep in the first part of the sleep & frequency awakenings in the second part ==> Tendency to sleepiness during the day ====> 3 nights to recover a normal sleep

Eastwards flight

first night can be better because of the accumulated sleep debt => Next nights sleep is more unstable ==> 7 days to recover a normal quality of sleep

Jetlag: stoperver less than 48h

keep the rhythm of the departure country

Jetlag: holdover more than 48h

change the rhythm of the arrival zone

other strategies for Jetlag:

Regularly alternate sleep/wake periods; Keep regular meal times; Manage exposure (aussetzten) to day-light ====> 1 -1,5 h verschiebt es sich pro Tag

What is stress? Stressfactors ?

Ausschüttung von Adrenalin =>Stress factors activate the stress mechanism which in turn leads to a stress reaction

The biological stress mechanism

Homeostasis => a balance of forces => 2 forces: 1. Disturbing forces= Stress 2. Neutalizing forces = Adaptive response ===> Balance im Körper = Homeostasis

2 Typen beim Stress => response to stress =a physical priming for action

1. Stand & Fight: 2. Run away

a physical priming for action  => In- and decreasining

Increasing: Heart & respiration rates; skin preparation, pupils dilation, blood pressure, muscle strength, secretion of adrenaline

Decreasing: gastric functions; abdominaö & surface blood flow

==> Sport ist das beste, um Stress abzubauen

die 3 Status beim Stress

0. Stress 1. Alarm => Adrenalin 2. Resistance => Cortisol 3. Exhaustion ==> ANS: Auomated Nervous System

4 Stress Faktoren

1. Physical: Environmental factors (traffic/Noise) and Internal factors (hunger/fatigue, lack of sleep)

2. Work related: External factors (word under/or overload; Stress transfer) and Internal factors ( Knowledge Based; No time; Bad solution)

3. Personal: Negative events; bus also positive; daily stressors have a weight and are cummulative

4. Psychological: Anticipatory stress ==> z.B. 1 Fallschrimsprung

===> Stress is kumulativ

2 Stressarten

1. Eustress: positiver Stress => successful Managent

2. Distress: negativer Stress

Warning of stress

Fixation, mental block, increase of risk behavior, regression to earlier habits

Stress Management: 2 Arten

1. COPING: efforts to prevent, control, reduce or learn to tolerate the threats that lead to stress ==> Emotion and Problem -focussed coping

2. Long-term strategies: Exercies, learn to say no, laugh, eat well and get enough sleep, breathing

Was sagt das Shannon & Weaver model?

The context model

In einem geschlossenen Kreise => Wurde es verstanden (JA/NEIN) ==> Gibt Feedback

active listening

zuhören ist aktiv ==> We have 2 ears and one mouth

a) We spend 42% of our time listening

b) One of the biggest reasons for failure within the aviation environment is failure to hear

c) This skill requires more than passive attention, it requires active involvement

4 communications level?

1. Factual level: informative

2. Self disclosure: Was habe ich damit gemeint

3. Appeal level: Was hat die andere Person verstanden

4. Relation level: Beziehung zueienander

Explicit communication?

Nicht interpretier bar => Fliegerei => Was tatsächlich geschrieben wurde

Implicit communication?

Was der Kontext hergibt

What you can say about radio communication:

a) Radio communication is fragile (we don't see our interlocutor)

b) This loss needs to be compensated

c) Phraseology and read back are necessary protections

Never leave anything in a changing state or a task uncompleted to start a discussion ==> Streit aufs debriefing verschieben

Briefings ?

1. Must be short

2. Must be indicidually prepared for each flight

3. Must be understood and supported by all crew memebers

For what are call outs?

to maintain and update crew situation awareness

For what are procedures?

Procedures help sharing a same context => Vital also for all communications without visual feedback

Checklists; was ist wichtig?

1. das wichtige zuerst oder am Schluss

2. managing a CL at the same tome maintaince staff or cabin crew enter the cockpit

3. most critical point must be oncluded in several CL

4. do not coincide with other task

5- sub divided

5. the items in the CL must follow a geographical sequence

4 conflict types:

1. Intra-personal: Mit mir selber

2. Inter-personal: Mit einer anderern Person

3. Intra-group: Innerhalb der Gruppe

4. Inter-group: Gruppe gegen Gruppe

Destructive conflicts have negative safety implications

Crew work is impaired, which may reveal critical in the vent of an emergency

In case of in-flight stress
