German basic law
(6 important aspects)
- signed on 23 May 1949, entered into force on 24 May 1949
- basis for all other German laws
- rules of EU have higher priority, but must ensure same standard of HR
- Key functions: establish the state, create principles for the state, stabilize the state, guarantee freedom, limit state power
- can only be amended by a two-thirds majority in both chambers
- 4 parts: preamble, basic rights, catalogue, organizatorial principles of the state, miscellaneous provisions
