If the client tries to connect to an external TLS server, the intercepting proxy will generate a certificate on the fly with the corresponding subject name of the intended TLS server. This certificate will be presented to the client during handshake protocol. The client will accept this certificate, because the root CA certificate of the ICA which signed the faked certificate is a preinstalled trusted root CA in the certificate store of the enterprise's client (deployed by the IT-Services). Because the internal CA issues a web-server server certificate on the fly, there is only one way for the user to detect the faked certificate, if he/she will verify the certification path up to the CA and compare it with the trusted Root CA presented over another network. The proxy on the other side will open an TLS connection to the real server on behalf of the client.
As shown above, the TLS Interceptor acts as a MitM (Attacker) and shares the sid, the master secret (ms) and all derived keys with both victims for both sessions and connections. A typical product is bluecoat's ProxySG (http://www.bluecoat.com). But you can build such TLS Proxy by your own on Linux using Squid and OpenSSL.
Was ist DTLS ?
Does DTLS provide a solution for message loss?
Message loss is accepted for record protocol (or must be handled by the application layer). For the handshake protocol a simple retransmission timer to handle packet loss is implemented.
Does DTLS provide a solution against replay protection, message re-ordering and message duplication?
A replay protection is included with an explicit sequence number in the record header.
