Definition of international management

International management covers both the crossing of national borders and the internal and external environment diversity that organizations and their managers experience when functioning outside their home state.

Causes of the increased complexity and uncertainty

  • The more foreign a host country, the harder it becomes to identify cause-effect relations in people's behavior. That makes it more difficult to anticipate and assess the consequences of one's actions.
  • Environmental factors and conditions vary from country to country. It is impossinle to have one worldwide procedure for the whole world. You need situation and case specific procedures. Moreover also economic, political and social disparities prohibit a uniform methodology.
  • Patterns of perception, thought and behaviour are affected by sociocultural differences.
  • >Linguistic variation is accompanied by differences in communicative and cooperative behaviour.

Distinctive features of international personnel management

  • More tasks
  • Global perspective
  • Greater impact on private life
  • More risk-laden
  • Various economic and sociocultural conditions and factors taken into account
  • Equal tratment of different nationalities
