Innovation is a process that builds upon technical inventions (it builds on it, yes, but there is more to it)

E.g. Stefe Jobs and Stefe Wozniak

• Invention: Develope a product
• Innovation: Bringing a product on the market (people do not have to buy it)

Specialization and simplification of work are essential features of the process of innovation (but integration can be a feature of the process of innovation as well)

E.g. Simplification of building an airplain (into three smaller problems) vs. GE catalyst (reduction of parts with 3D printing production)

Technical and organizational change interact, sometimes reinforcing and sometimes hindering each other (they follow different laws)

E.g. Blockchain

Organizational change may be (i.e. usually is) slower than technical change

E.g. Cartoon of iPhon on helmet

Innovating organizations do not exist in vacuum, but are embedded in complex social patterns.

E.g. iPhone introduces the AppStore (radical change) and further development (incremental change)

Technology and innovation management is the field of scientific enquiry which investigates 

• the analysis of how a socio-technical system of interconnected elements changes over time
• whether elements change by emergence or through design
• how such changes can be leveraged to generate value in a sustainable way.
