What are the power and responsibilities of Chief of Flight Operatin (CFO)? (10)
- to lead and supervise flight operations at his dedicated airbase
- to coordinate flight operations with the Air Operation Center (AOC)
- to make decisions in regard to the execution of flight operations at his dedicated airbase
- to supervise reserve pilots currency missions and to issue mission orders where applicable
- to support the resolution of problems related to flight operations
- to supervise bird activity and to order counter measurements where applicable
- to lead the weekly flight operation meeting
- to support air crew in case of emergency
- to inform about flight accidents and to start immediate action according to MFU handbook
- to inform skyguide, support and logistics units about flight operations and related specialties
What happens during military service on an airbase with the position CFO?
is replaced by a FSO Flight Safety Officer having not the same power as the CFO and he passes all information on to the Squadron Leader who is responsible to take all the decision regarding flight operation

- issue information and clearances to aircraft to achieve a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic on the aerodrome and the vicinity of the aerodrome with the objective of preventing collision's between:
acft flying in the aerodrome traffic circuits around an aerodrome
acft operating on the manoeuvring area
acft landing and taking off
acft and vehicles operating on the manoeuvring area
acft on the manoeuvring area and obstructions on that area
- provide radar vectoring of arriving acft onto pilot-interpreted final approach aids or to a point from which a SRA or a PRA or a visual approach can be made

- provide radar separation between

- responsible to ensure MVA for IFR flights
