What is a general rule of thumb for determining if a child has the proper amount of teeth for their age?
Take the child's age in months and subtract 4 this will tell you how many teeth the child should have at that age. (give or take 1-2 teeth)
This is the combined mesial/distal arch space of primary canines and molars that is greater then the permanent canines and premolar space. It is a difference in arch space.

This is the spaces that occur on the mesial and distal of primary teeth that allow for adult teeth to erupt.
