He wrote a code of conduct for soldiers. Lieber Code issued by US government for the american soldiers. He was mandaded later from the president Lincoln and was american Law Prof. The development of international humanitarian law goes back to him.

Was a swiss business man from Geneva. He was shocked by seeing the injured people in the war of Solferino, who were left back on the battlefield. He's the founder of "Red Cross".  The development of international humanitarian law goes back to him.

Who is who: Hugo Grotius

He's the "father" of public int. Law. Was active in the frist half of the 16th century. In this time Amsterdam was the center of int. Relationsships. Hugo became lawyer of the VOC (by far the largest enterprise in the world). VOC was caugh in a huge litigation process and needed to do a legal analysis. Later he wrote the book "The freedom of Sea". His main work was "the law of war and peace" which was published in Paris. He died during the thirty years war.

Swiss, born in Neuchatel in the 18 century. He was diplimat in Germany. Major authority trough his main work "Law of nation" which was published in 1758. The second book was a reference book for diplomates.  He also had the view of natural law.

Who is who: Woodrow Wilson

He was the 28th president off the USA. His presidency was marked with the WWI. The tried to keep the USA out of the conflict. Wilsons forteen points became the basis of the peace of Versaille. His presidency was marked with the first world war. He tried to keep the USA out of the conflict. When german submarins attacked US-ships, he declared the war against germany. His main secure was to reamin peace. This was the reason he promoted his famous programm for the peace of the world. He got the nobel peace price. His work was the source for the League of Nation. Problem to ratify by the american congress for joining the the League of Nations finaly. The league of Nations (Geneva) was a first attempt at creating a new world order, succeeded in establishing the PCIJ (The Hague), but ultimately failed to secure peace and prevent wars.

Who is who: Ernst Rabel

German legal scholar, law prof. in Leipzig, Basel, Munich and berlin. He emigrated to te USA, in the time of NAZI regime in Germany. He's the founder of the journal for comparative and international private law (Rable Journal). He was also the initiator of the discussion on the unification of the rules of law for international sales transactions (UNIDROIT -> Later CISG).

She was the widow of Franklin D- Roosevelt (former US president). Mandated to become US represendend of UN and the commision which draftet the declaration of human rights. It was the stsrting point of human rights an international and not only national law. Starting point of golden age of human rights.
